Course Wiki & Technology Reviews
This assignment was designed as a WebQuest and the products were twofold: first, learn about and create a wiki on PB Works; second, using the wiki as a platform, write reviews of two emerging technologies and how they could be integrated into the classroom.
The wiki was my least favorite assignment of the course and the one in which I will be least likely to use as the teacher of early elementary children. I like the idea of a wiki - I understand it to be similar to Google Docs in the collaborative nature of it; the main difference being that rather than just a single collaborative document, it is a collaborative website. This is great - I am glad to know about it and I appreciate the ingenuity of it, but to me, it is the practicality of use in an early elementary classroom that comes up short.
Of course, with every negative, there is also a positive. My silver lining to this assignment was learning about so many different technologies. I appreciated taking the time to critically evaluate two of these that I would use in my future classroom: Pixton for Schools and virtual field trips. Both offer exciting and authentic opportunities for students that would enrich student classroom experiences; I would be likely to use each in the future.
