Blogging:  Course Reflection

I am not a blogger.  This is not a medium in which I enjoy expressing myself.  After previewing the course outline, of all the modules, I was not looking forward to this one.  The assignment was to create a blog and write four educational postings on it throughout the semester, for the purpose of exploring the classroom potential of this tool.  Fortunately, for my future students, this class has converted my opinion about blogs.

A classroom blog creates a positive interactive component to the class that cannot otherwise be duplicated.  It creates a safe place for students to be able to voice opinions or to ask questions that they may not feel comfortable to address in class.  It provides an alternative method of instruction, a possibility of reaching a student who may not have "gotten-it" during class.  Using a blog introduces students to the process of collaboration with others.  These are skills that my students will use throughout their lives.

So, for the sake of my students and to meet them on their common ground, I will definitely have a blog attached to my classroom website.  Additionally, I will eagerly participate and be happy that I reached students that otherwise might not have been reached.
